Located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains at about 2160 feet elevation, Hendersonville is 20 miles south of Asheville, North Carolina on Highway 26.

 

The Blue Ridge Parkway, considered the nation’s most scenic highway, winds 469 miles along the Blue Ridge Mountains, through Asheville and into the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The area is extremely popular in the autumn when fall foliage peaks in October.

Hendersonville became the county seat for Henderson County in 1847. Henderson County  was named for Leonard Henderson, the Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court from 1829 to 1833.


   

 The downtown streets are lined with planter boxes brimming with seasonal flowers and trees. Specialty shops, antique stores,  restaurants, and other businesses offer something for everyone of all ages. You will find something that you will want to take home with you.



Hendersonville City hall was built in 1928 and has many historic items to include large statues of three Presidents from North Carolina. Historic Downtown Hendersonville was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in March of 1988. Take the walking touring of downtown and you will find some great history and sights. Make sure you take your camera!



The Dixie Highway Plaque is located in front of the courthouse on the west side of Main Street. This plaque was placed in 1926 by the Daughters of the Confederacy and Friends in loving memory of Robert E. Lee and to mark the route of the Dixie Highway.


Hendersonville's climate is warm during the summer when temperatures are usually in the 70's and very cold during the winter when temperatures hang in the 30's. The warmest month of the year is July with an average maximum temperature of 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The coldest month of the year is January with an average minimum temperature of 25.20 degrees Fahrenheit.

The mild year-round climate makes outdoor activities very enjoyable. Whether your choice is hiking, biking, camping, swimming, fishing, boating,  horseback riding or sightseeing, Hendersonville can give you a Great Fun Vacation!
